Collagen... and why you're gonna want some.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body accounting for about 30% of your total body protein. It is responsible for things like joints, ligaments, tendons, hair, nails and skin, among others. It is literally responsible for holding you together.

Our collagen consumption has greatly decreased over the years with the continued change to more and more processed foods. Our ancestors consumed collagen in the form of bone broth made from the actual bones of animals. They also ate parts of the animal we would consider gross now which contained lots of collagen.

You can tell you may be collagen deficient if your skin is dry and dull, your hair is dry, brittle and dull and your nails are chippy (if that's even a word), and brittle. Also, you may have weird joint pain. Collagen is also super important to your gut health. It helps keep the integrity of the gut lining intact thus helping with leaky gut.

But there's good news! You can supplement with collagen, especially if you don't want to eat the sketchy parts of animals. There are collagen powders, capsules and even already prepared bone broth for sipping on their own or used for cooking. I use the collagen powder from Dr. Axe you can find it HERE. It has multiple types of collagen so you are covered for them all. It is tasteless and mixes well with hot or cold beverages or foods.

I mix a scoop of it in my coffee every morning. I can not tell you how fast my hair and nails grow now. My skin is more vibrant, my nails hard and grow fast, my hair shiny, thick and healthy. And I don't have weird knee and back pain like I used to. I am completely sold on the benefits and I refuse to miss a day. It's so easy to incorporate this vital protein in your diet with the powder, capsules, protein bars and powders, and bone broth. You just have to make it a priority and fit it into your daily routine.

Give it a try! It won't "cure" anything overnight but after a month see how you feel and what your hair, nails and skin look like. You will be pleasantly surprised.
