DIM stands for Diindolylmethane. It is a compound found in cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower. The power behind this supplement is that it helps balance "good" and "bad" estrogen levels in your body. It blocks the effects of xenoestrogens which are chemicals in our food and environment that mimic estrogen. This can upset the estrogen, progesterone, testosterone balance and when hormones are out of wack bad things can happen.
For Men especially, DIM has been found to antagonize the effects of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Excess DHT can lead to an enlarged prostate or even prostate cancer. DIM can be used to combat hormone-dependent cancers like breast and uterine in women and prostate in men. “Estrogen Dominance” is a condition where high estrogen levels promote symptoms like breast pain, fibrocystic breasts, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, PMS, bloating, anxiety, fat accumulation, and heavy menstruation. If you experience any of these symptoms or are a man growing larger breasts with possible prostate problems, you may want to give DIM a try.
In my personal experience, DIM is a miracle. I would have problems with cramping, tenderness, hot flashes, acne, overall PMS stuff and feel like my uterus was about to explode before it would (sorry guys, if this is TMI). Anyway, I took DIM consistently for several months last year and felt great. I have no idea why I got away from it but earlier this year my skin started to be a problem and that was unusual for me, I would have breast tenderness and bloating. I started back on DIM and within one month, my skin was great, my symptoms completely gone and my cycle started without any fanfare. It's been amazing and I highly recommend it to anyone in a similar situation. Whether you are a woman or a man, you can benefit from supplementing with DIM. Here is the DIM I use.
